Earlier in the week, the Texas football program hosted multiple key targets for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 recruiting classes for the July BBQ. On July 28, Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian got underway with hosting the July BBQ which looked to be a real hit with essentially all of the visiting recruits.
And two of the most notable visitors on campus this week were the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback and recent Texas commit Arch Manning and the local Austin-Westlake four-star edge rusher Colton Vasek. It looks as if Vasek and Arch formed quite the connection too during the Texas BBQ this week.
Vasek even took to social media to post a picture of him and Arch hanging out in Austin during this visit week for the Texas BBQ.

But that definitely wasn’t the only picture that emerged on social media over the weekend of both Vasek and Manning hanging out together during the visit this week. There were multiple pictures that surfaced of them two together at different points of the visit.

That included them together on the infamous golf cart going around campus that we’ve seen Arch on so many times.

It also included Vasek and Manning hanging out before the Longhorns pool party on July 28.
All in all, you don’t really get this level of attention from the nation’s No. 1 rated recruit in Arch if Texas isn’t making you a top priority. It’s clear how much both the coaches, players, and fellow Texas recruits want Vasek in the 2023 class.
Vasek’s decision is likely going to boil down to the Longhorns and the Oregon Ducks. If he decides that he wants to get away from home, then Oregon is the likely destination. But if he wants to stay closer to family, then Texas should have the clear edge.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma Sooners do still remain in the running in the race to land a commitment from Vasek heading into the fall. But Vasek is a Texas legacy and is from right in the university’s backyard. It’s hard to see him picking Oklahoma over Texas if he does ultimately want to stay close to home.
Texas currently holds commitments from 20 recruits in the 2023 class as of the morning of July 30. At the moment, the Longhorns hold a commitment from one edge rusher in the 2023 class, which came from the former Oklahoma State Cowboys pledge and three-star South Oak Cliff product Billy Walton.
