At this point of the offseason, the top remaining target for the Longhorns 2023 class on the defensive side of the ball could be the elite five-star Arlington-Martin cornerback Javien Toviano. Texas will be looking to round out a truly special group in the secondary in the 2023 class by landing two blue-chips DBs, highlighted by the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex product Toviano.

The other top remaining defensive back target worth noting for the Longhorns 2023 class at this point of the offseason is the touted four-star Woodlawn (LA) cornerback Jordan Matthews.

There is a certain mysterious aura that Toviano has surrounding his recruitment on a constant basis. And that’s not likely going to fade as we approach a likely decision coming from the talented corner in the next few weeks.

It’s hard to exactly boil down who the top two or three schools are at the moment in the race to land a commitment from Toviano. If I had to guess, though, I would say that his top three schools would be some combination of Texas, Texas A&M, the LSU Tigers, and Michigan Wolverines.

If Toviano does decide to stay in-state, that would obviously benefit the Longhorns and Aggies. And there’s a good chance that a decision from Toviano does wind up boiling down to Texas and Texas A&M this fall.

Furthermore, Toviano made an unofficial visit this week to Baton Rouge to see LSU. And there were some that were expecting Toviano to show up either in Austin and/or College Station this weekend. Yet, Toviano didn’t wind up showing up in Austin or College Station as of the afternoon of July 31.

This will leave just a couple of weeks that Texas could have to potentially get Toviano to campus for the first time since his spring unofficial visit back in mid-April before a decision could come from the Arlington, TX, native. But there still remains a possibility that Toviano pushes his decision into mid-September in the midst of his senior season at Martin.
