Breaking down 3 Texas football recruits with upcoming decision dates
Cedric Baxter Jr., RB
The highest priority skill position target of the Longhorns 2023 class heading into the fall is the uber-talented four-star Edgewater (FL) running back Cedric Baxter Jr. Scheduled for an Aug. 10 decision date, Baxter could soon be the next commit to join the Longhorns 2023 class ahead of the start of the upcoming regular season.
Texas made Baxter the clear-cut top priority at the running back position in the 2023 class this summer once the former Horns commit and five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens gave his pledge to the Louisville Cardinals in an abrupt fashion. But soon after Owens’ commitment to the Cardinals, Baxter was ranked by multiple major recruiting services as the better of the two running backs.
New running backs coach Tashard Choice has done a tremendous job building a fantastic connection with Baxter and his camp that stems back to his time on staff with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Choice and the Longhorns staff will be looking to close out this recruitment on a high note by fending off the likes of the Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, and Texas A&M.
Texas continues to lead the way from what we’ve heard among the top four schools in the race to land a commitment from Baxter. While the possibility still remains that Baxter could pull off a shocker and commit elsewhere, I would continue to peg the Longhorns as the favorite to come up with his pledge on Aug. 10.
