Cedric Baxter Jr., RB

The highest-rated target of the Longhorns’ 2023 class with a looming decision date set for this month is the talented and potent four-star Edgewater (FL) running back Cedric Baxter Jr. Texas can round out the running back recruiting in the 2023 class if they land a commitment from Baxter on Aug. 10.

Texas is in the top group of schools for Baxter’s decision along with the Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, and Texas A&M. And it looks like the three schools competing with Texas on the recruiting trail in the race to land a commitment from Baxter are still attempting to make a big move with Baxter before his announcement next week.

The closer we get to Baxter’s decision date, the more it sounds like Texas is still going to be the pick. There really wasn’t any evidence that was enough to show that Baxter could waver from his interest in the Longhorns.

New running backs coach Tashard Choice has done a fantastic job building a great relationship with Baxter and his camp. And that relationship for Choice with Baxter stems back to his time as the running backs coach with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

I personally don’t believe that there’s much of anything for Florida, Miami, and/or Texas A&M to do that will move the needle with Baxter in the next week or so ahead of his decision date. It looks like Baxter had a destination in mind for his commitment as soon as he announced his decision date a few weeks ago.
