Texas football secures OV with 4-Star EDGE Tausili Akana
Yet another major official visitor was added to the docket this weekend among the top uncommitted targets remaining of the 2023 Texas football recruiting class for the biggest game of the non-conference schedule this fall. This big-time visitor weekend for Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian will come on Sep. 10, when the Horns battle the reigning National Champion runner-up Alabama Crimson Tide at home.
Sark and the Longhorns are now slated to get the highly touted four-star Skyridge (UT) edge rusher Tausili Akana for an official visit to Austin for the big-time game weekend on Sep. 10 at home against Alabama. The report of Texas locking in the official visit with Akana for the Alabama game weekend came courtesy of Blair Angulo of 247Sports on Aug. 7 (paid content).
This confirmation of Akana locking in his official visit to Austin for the Texas-Alabama game weekend also came on the same day when he took to social media to officially announce his Texas scholarship offer.
Texas football gets 4-Star EDGE target Tausili Akana on the books for an official visit on Sep. 10
This will be Akana’s first time visiting Texas since his unofficial back in early June. It will also be his third visit to Austin in total. The first time that Akana visited Texas was an unofficial back on June 3, 2021.
Akana’s Texas offer came his way the day following his first unofficial visit to Austin last summer.
Moreover, Texas is starting to ramp up the efforts on the recruiting trail with Akana in the last few weeks. Akana’s importance to the Longhorns 2023 class took priority in the last few days after Texas missed out on two key edge rusher targets in four-star Friendswood product Braylan Shelby and four-star Austin-Westlake product Colton Vasek.
On Aug. 6, Texas missed out on Shelby when he announced his commitment to new head coach Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans.
Texas also missed out on Vasek when he surprisingly committed to new head coach Brent Venables and the rival Oklahoma Sooners on Aug. 1.
At this point of the offseason, it looks like the top two priorities among edge rusher targets for the Longhorns 2023 class are Akana and the elite five-star Venice (FL) product Damon Wilson.
Texas currently holds 21 commits in the 2023 class after landing a pledge from the touted four-star Teague (TX) linebacker/edge rusher Derion Gullette on Aug. 5. Sark and the Longhorns hold commitments from two edge rushers now in the 2023 class in Gullette and three-star South Oak Cliff product Billy Walton.
