News arrived concerning a former Texas football head coach early this week, indicating that he will be shifting his role from coaching to the broadcast booth. Former Texas head coach Tom Herman is reportedly set to join the CBS Sports broadcast team this fall.

This addition of Herman to the CBS broadcast team this year was announced on Rick Neusheisel’s SiriusXM radio show “Full Ride” this week. The specific report of this news emerged from Chip Brown of Horns247 on Aug. 8 (paid content).

Herman’s first game as a color analyst with CBS Sports will reportedly come on Sep. 3, when the North Texas Mean Green out of Conference-USA takes on the SMU Mustangs out of the American Athletic Conference.

Moreover, this is definitely an interesting shift in roles for Herman after he joined the Chicago Bears as an offensive analyst/special projects coach following his departure from Texas a couple of years ago. Herman wound up spending just one season on staff with the Bears before making this shift to the commentator booth.

After parting ways with Herman last offseason, Texas hired the former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator and 2020 Broyles Award winner Steve Sarkisian. Texas got off to a rough start under Sark during the 2021 season, registering a record of 5-7 (3-6 Big 12).
