3 more key injuries Texas football suffered last weekend
Roschon Johnson, RB
The first scary bit of injury news that came about during the scrimmage last weekend arrived when senior running back Roschon Johnson was carted off the field with a lower-body injury. It actually sounded like Roschon’s injury would be the most serious of the nearly half-dozen injuries that occured during the scrimmage on Aug. 13.
But the good news here is that Roschon should be able to at least be back at or near full health for the Longhorns by the start of Big 12 play.
And Sark even gave a much more optimistic prognosis on Roschon’s recovery timeline than most of the initial reports following his injury over the weekend. Sark mentioned that Roschon is one of the players that should be back in the next couple of weeks in practice at the latest.
While Texas might be able to get Roschon back in the fold for practice in the next couple of weeks, you usually don’t get a running back at full healthy just 14 days after suffering a high ankle sprain.
Maybe this injury really isn’t as serious as it was first thought to be. But this is definitely going to be one to watch moving forward given Roschon’s importance to this locker room as one of the true vocal leaders.
In terms of depth in the running back room, Texas will be fine without Roschon on the field early on during the regular season. Other talented backs such as junior Bijan Robinson, sophomore Jonathon Brooks, redshirt junior Keilan Robinson, etc., would be able to shoulder the load for Texas for the time being.
But I personally will be watching the injury updates with a keen eye as they come out in the next few days to a couple of weeks. If Texas can get him back at or near full health before the regular season opener, that would be tremendous news after a scary initial reaction to this lower-body injury to Roschon.
