Less than three weeks from the start of the regular season, Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian are gearing up for a difficult road ahead. Texas has a tough non-conference schedule, highlighted by matchups against the reigning National Champion runner-up Alabama Crimson Tide and defending Conference-USA Champion UTSA Roadrunners.

And the schedule in the early phase of the regular season just got made a little bit more difficult by some of the recent injury updates coming out of fall camp. Over the weekend, Texas lost the likes of redshirt sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Neyor and senior interior offensive lineman Junior Angilau to season-ending ACL tears during the first scrimmage of fall camp.

There were other key Longhorns players that came up with various injuries in the last week or so such as senior running back Roschon Johnson and junior defensive back Jahdae Barron. But it looks like those other key injured Longhorns players should be ready to go by the regular season opener.

The fact of the matter is now that Texas’ outlook for the regular season does look at least a little bit different than it did just one week ago. Texas still needs to focus on getting it done on the field this fall and winning the games against the opponents they should be beating, though.

That means Texas taking care of business against opponents that could put them on upset alert and in some potential trap games. Texas can avoid those traps by staying well-prepared as the season moves along and not letting any overrated opponents get the best of them.

With that in mind, here’s a look at three of the most overrated opponents on the Longhorns’ schedule in 2022.
