The first loss for the Texas football program to the NCAA Transfer Portal since the start of fall camp arrived on Aug. 22 in the former blue-chip recruit and redshirt sophomore offensive tackle Jaylen Garth. After spending two full years at Texas, the 2020 Texas signee and Port Neches-Groves High School product put his name in the transfer portal.

This season would be the third for Garth as a member of the Longhorns if he had stuck around.

During his two seasons playing for Texas, Garth registered just shy of two-dozen offensive snaps over the course of two games. The two games he did play in during his time at Texas came last season against the Rice Owls and Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Moreover, this loss for the Longhorns signifies a few things for head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff. First off, losing Garth to the transfer portal is the type of thing that was bound to happen when Sark and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood hauled in such a highly touted 2022 recruiting class along the O-Line.

Texas seeing so many true freshmen offensive linemen push up the depth chart in fall camp likely played a role in Garth entering the transfer portal, if playing time was any factor in this decision.

Who could be the next Texas football player to enter the portal after Jaylen Garth?

And there could be more decisions like this just around the corner. With that in mind, here’s a look at a prediction of who the next transfer from the Longhorns could be based on the factor of playing time/depth chart positioning.

Prince Dorbah, EDGE

One of the true edge rushers for the Longhorns that was battling it out for a spot on the two-deep depth chart in fall camp this year is the former four-star Highland Park recruit and redshirt sophomore Prince Dorbah. But we just haven’t heard much in the way of positive returns out of camp from Dorbah this year.

Now, that’s mainly due to how we just haven’t heard much, in general, coming out of fall camp regarding the status of Dorbah.

There was once a lot of hope for Dorbah when the staff originally recruited him under former head coach Tom Herman. Dorbah was one of the most potent and talented commits in the Longhorns’ 2020 class. But he just hasn’t developed as many thought he would.

Part of that is due to the lack of size and scheme fit in this defensive concept under co-DC/linebackers coach Pete Kwiatkowski. You can’t really blame Dorbah for that lack of scheme fit entirely.

But the fact of the matter is that Dorbah probably isn’t going to get many live-game reps this fall. He isn’t coming out of fall camp with a spot on the two-deep among the edge rushers if the second-team reps given to true freshman Ethan Burke are any indication.

I would imagine that the top three buck end players for the Longhorns this fall are senior Ovie Oghoufo, Burke, and DJ Harris Jr. Oghoufo and Burke are already getting more first and second-team reps, respectively, than Dorbah at this point of fall practice. And it seems like only a matter of time before the same occurs with Harris compared to Dorbah.
