Quinn Ewers finding his stride at the right time

I would presume one of the big discussion points that most Longhorns fans wanted to hear about in this Aug. 25 press conference with Sark was a status update on the new starting quarterback and redshirt freshman Quinn Ewers. Sark didn’t talk for a really long time about Ewers in this press conference, but it was notable to hear what he did have to say about his progress since being named the starter late last week.

Regarding Ewers in practice this week, Sark said that “I’ve seen some plays where it’s like okay, we’re starting to take another step with him” and that he’s “making some really big throws on third down”.

Those are both significant strides for Ewers coming out of practice this week.

It’s also worth noting that Sark mentioned how Ewers made a big play with his legs in practice on Aug. 25. Ewers showing that he still has some of that dual-threat ability thanks to his underrated speed is an aspect of his game that opposing defenses shouldn’t forget about.

It won’t be long before Ewers is suiting up for his first game as the Texas starting quarterback. And he’s only got one game during the regular season before he has to face that vaunted Alabama defense on Sep. 10.

Moreover, since the second fall scrimmage concluded last weekend, we’ve continued to hear positive feedback regarding Ewers’ progress as the new starting quarterback. He’s showing more confidence and rhythm as QB1 in practice, which is exactly what’s needed from him before the start of the regular season.
