Another highly touted Texas commit that was on fire in his opening game on the season this weekend was the five-star DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook. DeSoto High School took on New Orleans-St. Augustine in a cross-state matchup on Aug. 26 that saw the two teams square off at the Nike Headquarters in Portland, OR.

And it didn’t take long at all for Cook to get back to his flashy ways with an explosive touchdown catch where he burned the opposing defensive back for a deep route that went for roughly 68 yards. That long touchdown catch for Cook also highlighted the great speed and route-running ability that he brings to the table.

There was another highlighting play where we saw some impressive awareness and footwork from Cook near the sideline to haul in a first-down grab in the last two minutes of the first half.

Cook and four-star Texas running back commit Tre Wisner ultimately helped to lead DeSoto to a dominant 35-10 win over a solid opponent in St. Augustine on Aug. 26. Wisner also had a score on the day to kick off his senior campaign on a high note.

The High School Football America 100 ranked DeSoto as the No. 14 team in the country during the preseason. DeSoto was just able to prove themselves against the No. 16 team out of Louisiana in St. Augustine with a four-score victory.

The schedule will get much more difficult for Cook, Wisner, and DeSoto next weekend, though, when they take on the No. 4 ranked team nationally in St. Frances Academy out of Baltimore, MD.
