851. TBD. 0. 874. Lubbock, TX. Saturday, Sept 24. TBD. 2-1

The Big 12 opener will see a newly rejuvenated Longhorns team under Sark that will be looking to continue to take steps in the right direction. Texas will open up Big 12 play against new head coach Joey McGuire and the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a difficult environment in Lubbock on Sep. 24.

Texas got the most lopsided win of the Big 12 slate last season against the Red Raiders. And what’s left of this Texas Tech team should have a chip on their shoulder to avenge that 35-point loss from last season.

This will be a tight game, as an underrated offensive unit led by running back Tajh Brooks and wide receiver Myles Price push Texas to the limit. Texas is able to squeak out a win here, though, with a game-winning field goal from freshman kicker Will Stone.

Final score prediction: Texas-30, Texas Tech-27

TBD. Saturday, Oct 1. 851. Austin, TX. 0. TBD. 877. 3-1

After escaping Lubbock with a close win in the Big 12 opener, Texas has another matchup that could push them in the first home game of conference play against the West Virginia Mountaineers on Oct. 1.

Sark and the Longhorns will be looking to avenge the tough loss that they suffered on the road in Morgantown last season against head coach Neal Brown and the Mountaineers.

Ewers will have one of his better games of the first half of the season. The West Virginia secondary is breaking in some younger starters, and Ewers can take advantage of that by beating them over the top for a couple of deep touchdown passes to star sophomore wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

Add in a good effort from the defense against senior quarterback JT Daniels, and Texas is able to get a comfortable win to move to 2-0 in Big 12 play by beating the Mountaineers by a couple of scores.

Final score prediction: Texas-35, West Virginia-24
