Sark and the Longhorns will get to put their three-game winning streak and 2-0 start in conference play to the test in the annual Red River Rivalry Game on Oct. 8 against new head coach Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas will be looking to knock off the Sooners in Red River for the first time since 2018.

This winds up being a high-octane offensive battle for the second straight season between Texas and Oklahoma. There are also multiple turnovers on each side as transfer quarterbacks Ewers and Dillon Gabriel combine to toss four picks on the day.

It is ultimately the Oklahoma defense that stimies Ewers and the Longhorns on a drive that could win the game for Texas. Oklahoma escapes from Red River with their fifth straight win over Texas.

Final score prediction: Oklahoma-46, Texas-41

One of the major unknowns in the Big 12 this season will be head coach Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones. After proving to be one of the more consistent teams in the Big 12 in the last few seasons, Iowa State has some questions to answer this year following the departures of some key players.

I have to believe that Iowa State still has a high floor given the level of returning production in the trenches, especially on the defensive side of the ball. The most recent edition of the SP+ rankings from Bill Connelly and ESPN during the preseason ranked Iowa State as a top 50 team on both sides of the ball.

That said, Iowa State should be an easier team to deal with at home in the friendly confines of DKR. Texas eeks out a win to get back on track after falling short in a one-possession game in Red River the prior week.

Final score prediction: Texas-28, Iowa State-20
