One of the upcoming scheduled commitments to watch among top targets of the 2023 Texas football recruiting class comes from the highly touted four-star Longview wide receiver Jalen Hale. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion are looking to potentially make Hale the finishing touch to wideout recruiting in the 2023 class.

If Sark, Marion, and the Longhorns can secure a commitment from Hale when he announces his decision on Sep. 21, that would bring Texas up to four blue-chip wide receiver commits in the 2023 class. Unless Sark wants to devote one additional scholarship that could be utilized elsewhere in the 2023 class or via the NCAA Transfer Portal next offseason, wide receiver recruiting should be rounded up if Texas secures a commitment from Hale.

And it sounds like Texas is sitting in a pretty favorable spot at the moment in the race to land a commitment from Hale before he gets his fall official visits underway.

According to Cole Patterson of Orangebloods/Rivals, Hale likes how Sark “uses his receivers” and he feels like”I would fit in at Texas”.

Texas football is a “fit” for 4-Star WR Jalen Hale with less than a month before his commitment

This is a good sign for the Longhorns as they battle it out with the likes of the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas A&M Aggies namely in the race to land a commitment from Hale next month.

Texas could have momentum heading into the official visit for Hale, which is set to take place on the big-time game weekend against Alabama on Sep. 10. Prior to his official visit to Austin to see the Longhorns face the Crimson Tide, though, Hale is set to take a trip to Tuscaloosa for an OV with Alabama on Sep. 3.

At the moment, Alabama looks like the biggest challenger for the Longhorns among the top group of schools for Hale. But we can’t yet rule out the Aggies in among the top schools for Hale. It sounds like he has a tentative official visit set to College Station to see Texas A&M on the weekend of Sep. 17.

If that official visit is confirmed, that could give head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies the final word among in the in-person trips for Hale before his commitment date of Sep. 21. That would be a valuable edge for Texas A&M to hold in this recruitment over Texas and Alabama.

Yet, I still like where Texas sits among the top schools for Hale as we head into the 2022 season. Texas is going all out to make sure Hale knows he’s a top priority. And that even extends beyond the coaching staff.

The elite five-star DeSoto wide receiver and summer Texas commit Johntay Cook is recruiting Hale just as hard, if not harder, than this coaching staff in the last couple of months.
