Kirk Herbstreit calls Sarkisian and Ewers a ‘match made in Heaven’
The 2022 college football season kicked off last weekend with the annual festivities of Week 0, and we’re now just a few days away from the start of the regular season slate for Texas football. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian will open up the 2022 regular season at home on Sep. 3 against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks out of the Sun Belt.
That means that Sark and the Longhorns are now just three days away from opening up the 2022 regular season.
We are soon to see the highly anticipated debut of the duo of Sark and the new starting quarterback and redshirt freshman Quinn Ewers.
There are many in the media anxiously awaiting the debut of the duo of Ewers and Sark for the Longhorns this season. One of those parties apparently is the well-known college football media personality, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit.
According to the Austin American Statesman, Herbstreit talked about how highly he thinks of this newfound duo of Sark and Ewers in an interview session earlier this week. Herbstreit even stated that he thinks Sark and Ewers are “a match made in Heaven”.

It did seem like there were a few reservations that Herbstreit has about the Longhorns’ hype this season, though.
“I don’t know if they’re ready to compete in the Big 12 this year or if they’re ready to compete in the SEC, but I love the direction they’re headed,” is what Herbstreit says about the state of the Texas program heading into the 2022 campaign.
Herbstreit also talked about a few other phases of the Longhorns program in this interview. Here’s more on what he said about the Longhorns in this interview this week.
"He calls the Texas coach’s offense very “NFL-friendly,” Bijan Robinson “a great tailback” and said the Longhorns have a lot of skill at wide receiver. As for quarterback Quinn Ewers, Herbie said, “Quinn is in really good hands.”"
It sounds like Herbstreit has the same take on the Longhorns as many of the fans do heading into the season, at least in terms of where the team stands on offense.
Texas certainly has a stud leading this offense in star junior running back Bijan Robinson. And if the offense can click this fall with Ewers taking the reigns as the starting quarterback, the sky really is the limit for this group.
Texas finished up last season with a record of 5-7 (3-6 Big 12), missing out on bowl season for the first time since 2016. Sark and the Longhorns will open up the 2022 regular season with a non-conference schedule that sees them face the Warhawks, No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide, and UTSA Roadrunners, in three consecutive home games.
