Visit season is about to arrive in full force for this fall, and there are some commits in the 2023 Texas football recruiting class worth watching as soon as this weekend. In fact, Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian have an interesting emerging storyline for one of the most important commits in the 2023 class for the first full weekend of action for this college football season.

According to a report from Corey Bender of On3/Gators Online on the morning of Sep. 2, the highly touted four-star Texas running back commit and Edgewater (FL) product Cedric Baxter Jr. is set to visit Gainesville this weekend to see the Florida Gators and new head coach Billy Napier.

Baxter’s unofficial visit to Gainesville this weekend will take place in the midst of the high-stakes game between Florida and the No. 7 Utah Utes out of the PAC-12 on Sep. 3.

This report also mentions that Florida offensive line coach Darnell Stapleton will be in attendance for Baxter’s game on Sep. 2, when Edgewater takes on Don Bosco Prep at home.

Baxter led Edgewater to a big win over Bishop Moore in the team’s opener for the 2022 season last weekend, by the final score of 22-7.

This weekend will be the fifth time that Baxter has unofficially visited Gainesville to see Florida in 2022. The last time that Baxter took a trip to Gainesville to see the Gators was back on June 18.

Moreover, I don’t believe there is much to worry about at the moment in terms of the status of Baxter’s commitment to the Longhorns in the 2023 class. Baxter still looks solid with his Texas commitment this fall. But it is still worth watching how his visit schedule comes together for the fall, especially if he takes some of the remainder of his four official visits.

Baxter is one of the highest-rated commits in the Longhorns 2023 class heading into the fall. He is also one of two running back commits in the Longhorns 2023 class, along with the touted four-star DeSoto product Tre Wisner.
