DeMarvion Overshown is ready to lead this defense

Last season, the Texas defense was absent a real vocal leader and a leader by example on a consistent basis. But it looks like that narrative could be changing this fall with co-DC/LB coach Pete Kwiatkowski seeing senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown really rise to the occasion in the season opener.

Overshown was the best defensive player at the outset of this game for the Longhorns. He was showing some real energy and spark in his game that wasn’t there for much of last season.

This was the version of Overshown that the Longhorns faithful were hoping to see lead this defense by this point of his collegiate career. He was flying all over the field and making plays when rushing the passer and chasing down the ball carrier in run defense.

Overshown finished up the night with eight total tackles and two tackles for loss. There also weren’t really any glaring missed tackles on the night from Overshown. That might be the most notable stride he made in the opener.

All in all, Texas was closing in on the ball much better this season than last. There also weren’t as many missed assignments and missed reads in all phases of the game on defense. And I would say that the energy from Overshown helped to bring this type of effort to the table for the entire Texas defense on the night.
