The highly anticipated first start in the collegiate career of redshirt freshman Texas football quarterback Quinn Ewers is here. And it didn’t take too long for the fireworks to get underway for the former Ohio State Buckeyes transfer in the regular season opener for Texas on Sep. 3 at home against head coach Terry Bowden and the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks out of the Sun Belt.

On the first drive of his career, Ewers wound up tossing the first pick of his collegiate career. Yet, Ewers responded in a big way on the following drive with the first touchdown throw of his career.

Ewers hit the fellow former elite five-star recruit and sophomore tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders on a 19-yard touchdown pass. That was both the first touchdown pass for Ewers and the first career touchdown catch for Sanders.

That passing touchdown from Ewers to Sanders put Texas ahead at the time by a score of 14-3. The first score of the game for the Longhorns came on a blocked punt by senior cornerback D’Shawn Jamison, which was returned for a touchdown by redshirt junior running back Keilan Robinson.

The first completion for Ewers also happened to go to Sanders in this game, which went for five yards earlier on this same drive.

Texas is currently ahead of ULM by a score of 21-3. The passing game, ground game, and special teams have each accounted for one score a piece with head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns getting up early on the Warhawks at home.
