DeMarvion Overshown and Barryn Sorrell could wreak some havoc off the edge

The part of this Alabama team that probably has the most question marks of any position group on either side of the ball lies along the offensive line. And the particular area along this offensive line that is the most questionable lies at offensive tackle.

Sophomore starting right tackle JC Latham has limited experience and had an effectiveness rating in pass coverage for true pass sets last season just north of 92 percent. That was one of the worst ratings among freshman linemen in the SEC last season.

Meanwhile, Alabama will be starting the Vanderbilt transfer and senior Tyler Steen at the left tackle position this season. Steen wasn’t a world-beater at offensive tackle in pass pro at Vandy in the last couple of seasons. We are likely to see much of the same with Alabama at the outset of this season.

While there are some major question marks for Alabama at offensive tackle this fall, the interior of the offensive line is more of a sure thing. That will make it more difficult for the Longhorns to get pressure up the middle, especially on pass plays.

Yet, the question marks for Alabama at the offensive tackle positions will give some opportunities for Co-DC/LB coach Pete Kwiatkowski and the Longhorns to try and drum up some quarterback pressure off the edge. This is where Texas needs senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and sophomore edge rusher Barryn Sorrell to have some massive performances on Sep. 10.

Sorrell and Overshown showed some newfound ability to create some havoc rushing the passer throughout the offseason and in the opener against ULM.

If Texas wants any shot to limit the potency of the reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and this explosive Alabama offense, they must get some pressure off the edge.
