Bijan Robinson can set the tone on the ground

Alabama’s defensive front is definitely going to be a problem for Texas in the trenches next weekend. This Alabama defensive line is one of the strengths of their defense, and that is especially true when it pertains to their run-stopping ability.

Last season, Alabama allowed roughly 2.5 yards per carry and just 87 rushing yards per game last season.

While it sounds like a daunting task for Sark and the Longhorns to find a way to set the tone on the ground in this game against a very talented Alabama defensive front, there are ways this can be done successfully.

The first way that Texas must attack the Alabama defensive front is up the middle. Alabama’s weak spot along the front seven is in the middle of the defensive line after the loss of stud defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis during the offseason.

That means there will be opportunities for star junior running back Bijan Robinson to find some lanes up the middle. Texas can run at some of the more unproven interior defensive linemen for the Crimson Tide such as freshman Jaheim Oates and let Bijan set the tone on the ground in this game.

Alabama is just too good for Texas to consistently beat them with outside runs. Turner, Anderson, edge rusher Chris Braswell, etc. are really good at setting the edge and blowing up run plays in the backfield.

All in all, Texas must take advantage of some of the question marks that Alabama has in terms of unproven depth in parts of this defensive line. That will also help open up plays in the passing game for Texas to press on the most questionable part of this Alabama defense which lies in the secondary.
