We are now three days away from the start of the high-stakes matchup between Texas football and the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian will get the shot to prove a major point to the nation this weekend when they host head coach Nick Saban and the defending National Champion-runner up Alabama in Austin.

Ironically, this will be the first time that the Longhorns are facing the No. 1 ranked team in the AP Poll since they matched up against top-ranked Alabama in the 2010 BCS National Championship Game. That was the infamous game where Texas quarterback Colt McCoy was injured and Alabama ultimately wound up convincingly defeating Mack Brown and the Longhorns.

Moreover, Texas can prove that this program is now trending in the right direction under Sark and his staff this weekend if they’re even able to keep this game competitive with the Crimson Tide. Essentially all college football fans think that Texas is way overmatched in this game, meaning that this team doesn’t have much to lose if they leave it all out on the field this weekend.

One of what seems like many national college football writers/analysts that don’t feel great about Texas’ chances against Alabama is Brad Crawford of 247Sports. In his weekly score predictions, Crawford had Texas falling short of Alabama by a score of 49-17.

A 247Sports writer picked No. 1 Alabama to convincingly beat Texas football this weekend by 32 points

Fellow 247Sports writer Chris Hummer also didn’t look to have a great feeling about the chances for the Longhorns this weekend. But Hummer at least had Texas losing by 24 points instead of 32. That got Texas somewhat close to covering the spread and he notes that he could maybe see Texas keeping this game “competitive for a bit”.

Yet, here’s what Crawford had to say on the Longhorns’ chances in this game against the Crimson Tide.

"I like Alabama in this game because I think the Crimson Tide are going to play with flawless execution compared to what we’ll see from the Longhorns. Alabama is used to the spotlight, The Crimson Tide have been in these hyped matchups. Not Texas. Quinn Ewers’ second career start against arguably the best defense in the country?"

Crawford looks to share the same popular opinion this week in that redshirt freshman Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is too young and inexperienced to help this team put up much of a fight against an uber-talented Alabama squad.

I personally feel as if Texas will keep this game closer than a 32-point margin of victory for Alabama. Texas has the talent and will likely fight one of their toughest battles of the season at DKR on Sep. 10. That should be enough to at least keep this game within two or three scores through the fourth quarter.

Texas should come close to covering the spread in this game, especially with it moving so far in Alabama’s favor in the last few days.
