Assessing 5 biggest visiting recruits for Texas football vs. Alabama
Duce Robinson (2023), TE
The last of the official visitors for the weekend on this list is the five-star Pinnacle (AZ) tight end and key USC Trojans target Duce Robinson. Just a few months ago, it looked like new head coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans were the far and away frontrunner in the race to land a commitment from Robinson.
And while it might still be the case that Riley and the Trojans hold the lead among the top schools for Robinson, the gap has clearly narrowed quite a bit since the start of the summer.
This official visit will be a huge opportunity for Sark, special teams coordinator/tight ends coach Jeff Banks, and the Longhorns to make a big impression with Robinson. Texas needs to absolutely knock this one out of the pack if they want to close even more ground on USC in the race to land a commitment from Robinson this fall.
Texas gets the chance to set the tone with Robinson this fall at the outset of his official visit schedule. He’s also scheduled to take official visits to see the Georgia Bulldogs (Sep. 24), Alabama (Oct. 7), and Oregon Ducks (Nov. 11).
Furthermore, Banks and the Longhorns have a solid tight end class for the 2023 cycle right now in three-star commits Will Randle and Spencer Shannon. The latter of those two Texas tight end commits had a great unofficial visit to Austin last weekend.
Despite Texas having two solid tight end commits in the 2023 class this fall, Robinson is clearly a take for Banks and Sark.
Texas is the hot school right now in Robinson’s recruitment. And the staff can continue to build momentum with Robinson with a successful official visit this weekend before he makes the rest of his fall trips.
