We’ve heard this before, but Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian was able to revive his college coaching career under legendary head coach Nick Saban with the Alabama Crimson Tide. The second-year head coach Sarkisian was an offensive coordinator at Alabama in 2019 and 2020.

Sark was also an offensive analyst with the Crimson Tide during the 2016 season and even served as the interim offensive coordinator during the postseason for Alabama once Lane Kiffin left to take the head coaching job with the Florida Atlantic Owls.

Alabama hired Sark as an analyst following his departure from the USC Trojans head coaching job, which occurred in the midst of the 2015 season.

In between his stints as an Alabama analyst and interim OC in 2016 and as the Tide offensive coordinator in 2019 and 2020, he was the offensive coordinator under head coach Dan Quinn with the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL.

Moreover, Sark was able to largely revive his career as the Alabama offensive coordinator. He won a National Championship with Saban and the Tide during the 2020 season. Sark also took home the Broyles Award for the 2020 campaign and saw his star wide receiver DeVonta Smith win the Heisman Trophy.

Sark got to talk about some of the time he spent under Saban with the Crimson Tide as an analyst and offensive coordinator ahead of Texas’ high-stakes matchup against Alabama in Austin on Sep. 10. On ESPN College GameDay, Sark among a number of other former Alabama coaches spoke on their experience with Saban.

Sark gave his gratitude to Saban, essentially when no one else wanted to take a chance on him in the mid-2010s. He also talked about the salary he was paid during his time as an analyst with the Crimson Tide. Sark mentioned that he made $35K as an analyst on this segment on ESPN’s College GameDay on the morning of Sep. 10.

This was brought up before, though, in this piece from al.com reporting Sark’s salary as an analyst at Alabama of $35K.

It was also interesting to hear the former Tennessee Volunteers head coach and Alabama analyst Butch Jones mention his salary on staff with the Tide. There was obviously quite the lofty discrepancy between what Jones made at Tennessee and then on staff at Alabama.

We also got to hear from the likes of the current Ole Miss Rebels head coach Kiffin, Maryland’s Mike Locksley, and Alabama OC Bill O’Brien in this set of College GameDay.
