4 key Texas football players injured vs. Alabama
In a game that saw head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football program push head coach Nick Saban and the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide to the brink, there were some of the men in burnt orange that came up with bumps and bruises from this outing. And the more we hear coming out of the weekend, the worse it sounds as it relates to Texas injury updates.
The first injury that comes to mind for the Longhorns faithful coming out of this weekend is the clavicle sprain that redshirt freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered near the end of the first quarter against Alabama. But there were a few other notable injuries that took place that we are learning more about as the hours progress on Sep. 11.
Sark and the Longhorns are definitely going to have a lot of work to do in preparation for another difficult non-conference matchup against head coach Jeff Traylor and the UTSA Roadrunners. Texas might be breaking in a new quarterback, along with a few other new starters if the injury updates don’t come back positive for this team as the week moves along.

With that in mind, here’s a look at four key injuries the Longhorns suffered coming out of this tough one-point loss to Alabama in Week 2.
Hudson Card, QB
An apparent injury that showed for the Longhorns in the loss to Alabama on Sep. 10 saw junior quarterback Hudson Card come up limping early on after getting thrust into action in the first half. Card took a big hit on a sack not too long after taking over for the injured Ewers.
It looked like that hit got Card’s ankle twisted up. And he was showing a very obvious limp on that sprained right ankle for the rest of the game.
Card looked like he had a broken ankle at times when moving around the pocket, and on one particular play where he rushed for more than 20 yards for a first down.
Yet, Card was still very resilient, showing a ton of toughness, in this matchup against the Tide. Despite the adversity he faced in this game, Card led a few scoring drives and completed nearly 64 percent of his passing attempts for more than 150 passing yards. He also didn’t turn the ball over a single time in this game.
From what we’ve heard in the last few hours concerning the injury status of Card, it sounds like the ankle could be something that’s lingering for at least a couple of weeks. There is a reason why there is so much chatter surrounding the likes of redshirt freshman quarterback Charles Wright and true freshman Maalik Murphy coming out of the weekend.
If nothing else, I would anticipate that we see Wright or Murphy taking some of the first-team reps in practice this week as Texas prepares for the test that lies ahead on Sep. 17 at home against UTSA.
