Roschon Johnson is going to be the most impactful Texas RB in September

The upper-body injury that Bijan suffered in the loss to Alabama is something that we will continue to monitor throughout the week. It looks like Bijan is set to get an MRI in the near future to determine the severity of the shoulder injury that he suffered this weekend.

But one of the players that will be counted on to step up in place of Bijan if he is going to be limited to any degree in the next couple of weeks is senior running back Roschon Johnson.

In the first two weeks of the season, Roschon was a mainstay for the Longhorns as he has the second-most touches among running backs behind Bijan. Roschon has racked up 70 total yards on 13 touches, with one touchdown, in the first two weeks of the season.

Of those 70 total yards, 50 are rushing.

Moreover, I’d imagine that Roschon is going to get a much heavier workload in the next couple of weeks if the results of Bijan’s MRI is anything that’s even a slight bit serious. Sark and running backs coach Tashard Choice probably won’t want to risk further injury to Bijan ahead of Big 12 play if he’s got a lingering injury issue that could get any worse.

That would leave the onus on Roschon, redshirt junior running back Keilan Robinson, sophomore Jonathon Brooks, etc. to pick up the pace next weekend against the UTSA Roadrunners. It would also put Roschon in line for probably at least 10 or 15 carries next weekend alone.

Given the production and efficiency from Roschon in the first two weeks of the season, it looks like he could be in a spot to see an uptick in his workload in the next few weeks. It also wouldn’t be surprising to see him take some snaps out of the wildcat as the quarterback if Card is unable to start against UTSA.
