Texas Tech scores 24 points in the first half, but Texas still wins

One of the biggest issues that Smith and the Red Raiders faced so far this season is turnovers. According to Sports Reference, Texas Tech is tied with the SMU Mustangs and roughly a dozen other FBS teams for the fifth-most turnovers in the country so far this season.

Texas Tech is averaging around three turnovers per game, most of which have come by way of interceptions from Smith in the last two weeks. In the last two games alone, Smith has five interceptions.

Some of the inaccuracy that Smith puts on display will definitely provide some opportunities for this Texas defense to steal some possessions for Card and the Horns offense.

Yet, I don’t doubt the raw talent and physical tools that Smith brings to the table. If he is able to get in rhythm at home, that could lead to an offensive explosion in the first half for the Red Raiders.

It will definitely help Texas Tech that senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will be suspended for the first half of this game since his targeting call from last weekend was upheld upon Big 12 review this week. That’s where I think that Texas Tech can get something going on offense.

Texas also came out slow on defense last week and was much better in the second half. I think the same will hold true when Texas gets one of their big-time leaders back in the second half in Overshown.
