The four-star Louisville Cardinals wide receiver commit and St. John Bosco (LA) product DeAndre Moore Jr. is shaping up to be potentially the top target at the position for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class. After Texas missed out on the highly touted four-star Longview wide receiver target Jalen Hale to the Alabama Crimson Tide a few days ago, the coaching staff had to figure out how to finish off the recruiting at this position in the 2023 class.

Hale was figured to be the final piece to the puzzle in terms of wide receiver recruiting in the Longhorns 2023 class. This is where Moore will figure into the picture now.

And it looks like head coach Steve Sarkisian, new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion, and the Longhorns have found some real traction with Moore soon after re-establishing communication with the California wideout this week.

Texas has already got on scheduling Moore for an official visit to Austin this fall for a game weekend. This will be Moore’s first visit to Austin since the spring.

There was another encouraging sign that emerged regarding the chances for the Longhorns to flip the commitment of Moore from Louisville this fall. Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas/On3 flipped his prediction from Louisville to Texas earlier this week.

Texas football starting to set the pace for 4-Star Louisville WR commit DeAndre Moore?

This came with a moderate to good level of confidence from Hamilton too.

Hamilton flipping his On3 prediction for Moore is significant since he is in the Texas camp. He is a national recruiting analyst/reporter for On3, but he also covers recruiting for Inside Texas and tends to have a pretty good pulse of what is going down on the recruiting trail.

Texas is really putting the pressure on Moore to flip his commitment from Louisville this fall. Even the elite five-star Isidore Newman quarterback commit Arch Manning is helping Texas recruit Moore, as he posted the Louisville commit on his Instagram story wearing Texas gear on Sep. 23.

Yet, it looks like Sark, Marion, and the Longhorns will have to put in a huge effort on the recruiting trail to fight off Louisville and the USC Trojans to get Moore locked in on signing day. Louisville will obviously do their best to retain Moore, as he is the top-rated wide receiver commit in their 2023 class.

New head coach Lincoln Riley and the Trojans are also a serious contender this fall to flip the commitment of Moore. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of either USC or Texas flipping Moore’s commitment in the next couple of months before the Early Signing Period arrives in December.

Moore appears to be the top wide receiver target as the Longhorns look to round out the recruiting at the position in the 2023 class before the Early Signing Period arrives. Some other wideout recruits to watch for the Longhorns this fall are four-star Temple athlete Mikal Harrison-Pilot, four-star LSU Tigers commit Kyle Parker, and four-star Notre Dame Fighting Irish commit Jaden Greathouse.
