Xavier Worthy has arrived

We were waiting for the breakout of star sophomore wide receiver Xavier Worthy for weeks now during the early stages of the regular season. There were times last weekend when it looked like Worthy was ready to have the breakout game of the season. But he, unfortunately, came up with a lower-body injury in the first half against Texas Tech.

We finally saw Worthy arrive in this game.

Worthy came up with a team-high seven catches for 119 receiving yards and two touchdown catches. But that wasn’t all that Worthy did for the Longhorns on this night.

He also registered a nice touchdown pass that went for 33 yards to sophomore tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders. That touchdown pass from Worthy to Sanders came on a double-pass play in the first quarter. It was right on the money.

It’s also worth mentioning that Sanders had a massive night and that we would like to continue to see him get more involved in the offense for the rest of the season. It felt like Sark was drastically underutilizing Sanders in the last few games.

This game should solidify the idea that Worthy is the most important player on this Texas offense. We saw last weekend what a defense looks like when Worthy is out of the game when Texas Tech adjusted to essentially not have to cover anything over the top. Worthy completely changes the game, and that was on full display in this win over the Mountaineers.
