On a big day for the Big 12 football schedule on Oct. 1, there was plenty of action around the conference right from the get-go on this Saturday morning. That included a key matchup between the No. 18 ranked Oklahoma Sooners and the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth on Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. CT.

Oklahoma was the slight favorite over TCU heading into this key matchup in the Big 12. But it didn’t take long for new head coach Sonny Dykes to seize momentum in this game over new head coach Brent Venables and the Sooners.

TCU took a double-digit lead in the first quarter and has yet to really look back vs. OU.

Yet, there were some notable setbacks that OU suffered in this game. In the first half, quarterback Dillon Gabriel left the game for the Sooners after suffering what looked to be a head injury on a scramble play where he took a bad hit from a TCU defender that would be flagged for targeting and upheld after a review.

According to a report from Dave Wilson of ESPN, Gabriel is out of the game for the Sooners. Gabriel was eventually taken to the locker room after taking this hit in the first half.

Dillon Gabriel, and Davis Beville both banged up for OU in potential Big 12 football upset vs. TCU

That’s what led to junior quarterback Davis Beville entering the game for the Sooners. Beville took over in the first half after the injury to Gabriel. Yet, Beville wasn’t around for long before he suffered what look to be an upper-body injury of his own.

On a third-down play in the third quarter, Beville scrambled and was brought down by TCU defenders near the sideline. He was pretty slow to get up.

It looked like third-string quarterback General Booty was getting warmed up on the sideline and had his helmet on after Beville looked to have suffered a shoulder or arm injury after trying to stiff-arm a TCU defender near the sideline.

We will see if it is Booty that takes to the field against the Horned Frogs on their next drive in the third quarter or if Beville is still healthy enough to lead the way for the OU offense.

Almost halfway through the third quarter, TCU holds a big lead over OU 48-17. TCU looks dominant at home one week before the Sooners face the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry game in Dallas on Oct. 8.
