A top defensive back target for the Longhorns in the 2023 class for a good while now is the elite five-star Arlington-Martin defensive back Javien Toviano. Texas has long made Toviano a top priority among defensive recruits in the 2023 class.

This is big to see that Toviano is visiting for Red River this weekend.

For the last few months, Texas started to seemingly lose some ground to the likes of the LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, and maybe even the Oregon Ducks in the race to land a commitment from Toviano. Early this fall, it started to look like Toviano was heavily leaning to taking his talents out-of-state.

And in the last few weeks, LSU really started to emerge as a frontrunner for Toviano.

But there is still a chance for Texas to turn the tide with what I would figure is the highest-rated remaining priority defensive back target for the Longhorns 2023 class. This could be the visit for a game weekend that can start to turn the tide in regard to Texas’ standing with Toviano compared to his other top schools.

This also could serve as an opportunity for Texas to make the right impression, which might be able to help them lock in an official visit for later in the fall. That would be a great next step for Texas as they look to make a big late push in the recruitment of Toviano a couple of months ahead of the first signing day.
