Colin Simmons, EDGE

A recently added visitor to the list for the Sooners this weekend for Red River against the Longhorns is the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons. The top-ranked 2024 edge rusher in the nation and the second-best recruit out of Texas will be one of the highest-rated visitors in attendance at Red River.

It is important to note that both of Texas’ top priority edge rusher targets for the 2024 class will be in attendance for Red River this weekend. Simmons will be visting along with the highly touted four-star Allen edge rusher Zina Umeozulu.

Texas looks to be in a better spot at the moment among the top schools for Umeozulu compared with their chances with Simmons. But it is still too early on in both recruitments to say where certain top schools definitely stand.

Simmons looks to be an LSU lean right now. He’s built a really solid relationship with LSU defensive line coach Jamar Cain and that staff in Baton Rouge. Simmons also had a successful unofficial visit to Baton Rouge to see LSU for a game weekend back on Sep. 10.

Moreover, this will serve as an opportunity for co-DC/LB coach Pete Kwiatkowski and defensive line coach Bo Davis to make a huge impression on Simmons if they can get a solid win over Oklahoma. If Texas can make a solid impression on Simmons and his camp this weekend, that could be an important step to start making up ground in his recruitment with LSU.

A successful weekend on the field at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Oct. 8 could help Texas make a move to work on getting Simmons to campus for a visit during another game weeked in Austin this fall.
