The visitor list is starting to come together this weekend for the Red River Rivalry game between Texas football and the Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma will technically be the home team in this game for recruiting purposes. They are allowed to host visitors this weekend for Red River, granted this will not be the standard type of visit.

It is worth noting, though, that many of the visiting recruits for the Sooners this weekend are also top targets on the recruiting trail for head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns. And there was another important OU visitor added to the list for Red River that is a top target of note for the Longhorns 2024 class.

According to a report from Sam Spiegelman of On3 on Oct. 7, the elite five-star Duncanville edge rusher Colin Simmons will visit the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Oct. 8 to watch Texas and Oklahoma in Red River. Simmons reportedly wants to get as many chances as he can to see both Texas and Oklahoma in live-game action this fall. And this is a great way to get that done to visit Red River in Dallas.

This will be the first time Simmons visits for a Texas and/or Oklahoma game this fall. He did visit both schools multiple times unofficially during the spring and the summer. The last time he visited Texas and Oklahoma was back in June.

Moreover, the most recent unofficial visit for Simmons came on Sep. 10 when he took a trip to Baton Rouge to see the LSU Tigers face the FCS Southern Jaguars. There seems to be a lot of interest right now between Simmons and LSU.

A win this weekend over OU could help Texas move the needle with Simmons this fall. Texas looks to have some ground to make up to LSU in the race to land a commitment from Simmons early on.

Texas currently holds commitments from three recruits in the 2024 class as of Oct. 7. There aren’t any edge rusher commits that the Longhorns currently hold in the 2024 class.
