5 reasons why Texas football can win the Big 12 after domination of OU
Texas has the best running back room in the country
It goes without saying that the star junior running back Bijan Robinson is one of the best players at his position in the entire country. But when you incorporate other standout running back talents such as senior Roschon Johnson, redshirt junior Keilan Robinson, sophomore Jonathon Brooks, true freshman Jaydon Blue, etc., you start to see just how potent this backfield can be.
Despite having some issues with run blocking this season, Texas is definitely still finding ways to get it done on the ground.
And we saw this ground game go off again last weekend against a degrading Oklahoma defense. Texas rushed for more than 290 yards and three rushing scores, which is the second time this ground game accomplished that feat in a single game in six tries this season.
Moreover, what I really like about this group of running backs moving forward is the way that Sark is getting them involved in multiple phases of the offense in the last couple of games. Keilan is a great example of how Sark was able to utilize a talented running back in multiple phases, as he came up with a receiving touchdown for the second straight week.
We also saw Sark utilizing Keilan, Roschon, and Bijan in multiple different screen, swing, and play action calls on offense last weekend.
Bijan is having a fantastic season, and is showing dramatic improvement in the receiving game. You can also see that Roschon is the vocal leader of this team and adds a nice change of pace alongside Bijan and Keilan.
It’s so hard to defense this group of running backs. And with the return of Ewers to the offense last week in the win over OU, there should be even more room to work in space for this group of backs from here on out.
