The meteoric rise of the uber-talented redshirt freshman Texas football quarterback Quinn Ewers is well noted this week. Ewers had a stellar game for Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian in the dominant 49-0 win over the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Oct. 8.

In that win over the Sooners last weekend, Ewers threw for 289 yards, four passing touchdowns, and one interception. He also eclipsed the 300-total yard mark against Oklahoma thanks to 17 rushing yards to go along with the 289 passing yards.

That now puts Ewers at a tally of nearly 650 passing yards on the season, with six passing touchdowns, and two picks. And it only looks like he’s going to get better from here for the Longhorns.

The rise of Ewers is something that has put the entire country on high alert. Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports mentioned Ewers among his top three quarterbacks in the country in Week 7.

This is the first time this season that Ewers has cracked the top five on Fornelli’s ranking of the 10 best quarterbacks in the country.

Here’s more on what Fornelli of CBS Sports had to say about the inclusion of Ewers among his top three quarterbacks in Week 7.

Texas football breakout freshman Quinn Ewers ranked as one of the three best QBs in the country this week

"I think he’s the best QB in college football. I don’t think he’s the most accomplished or the most polished, but he’s the best QB in the country. We’ve seen 2.5 games from this kid. He demolished ULM and was 9 of 12 for 134 yards against Alabama before being injured. He returned to action this week and threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns as Texas handed arch-rival Oklahoma its biggest beatdown since a couple of months before Pearl Harbor."

Ewers clearly had a fantastic game in the win over Oklahoma last weekend. And he looked great against the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Sep. 10 before getting knocked out of the game around the end of the first quarter when he suffered a clavicle sprain in his non-throwing shoulder.

Despite the shoulder injury, Ewers didn’t look rusty in the slightest last weekend against the Sooners. He essentially picked up right where he left off against Alabama more than one month ago.

It’s worth noting that Fornelli mentioned that he thinks Ewers is “the best QB in college football”. That’s obviously high praise for a quarterback that could easily have the most arm talent of any quarterback in the country. Only time will tell if he can become the best quarterback in the country both in terms of talent and production on the field.

The two quarterbacks that ranked ahead of Ewers on this list in Week 4 from Fornelli are Ohio State’s CJ Stroud and Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker (in that order from top to bottom). And the quarterbacks that rounded out the top five (also in order from top to bottom) below Ewers on the list are UNC’s Drake Maye and UCLA’s Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
