Kirk Herbstreit gushes over Texas football QB Quinn Ewers
On ESPN College GameDay on the morning of Oct. 15, we got to hear what one of the most notable college football media personalities thinks about the progress of redshirt freshman Texas football quarterback Quinn Ewers this season. Kirk Herbstreit talked about some of what he’s seen out of Ewers in this Texas offense this season, and the value he feels like he brings to the table for head coach Steve Sarkisian.
Herbstreit said that Ewers “has been decisive” and that Sark is “putting him in a really good spot throwing the ball”. There was one other interesting stat that Herbie noted regarding Ewers so far this season too.
Here’s more on what Herbstreit had to say on the matter of Ewers’ progress on the field so far this season on the set of ESPN College GameDay on Oct. 15 (transcript thanks to 247Sports).
Kirk Herbstreit continues to give Texas football QB Quinn Ewers positive reviews
"“Bear (Chris Fallica) gave me this — 59% of his completion have gone for 10 yards or more. That’s better than Hendon Hooker, C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, all the big-name quarterbacks, he just doesn’t qualify because he doesn’t have enough attempts, but that’s the kind of year this No. 3 is having right now.”"
Since the offseason, Herbstreit seemed to be high on what the duo of Sark and Ewers could bring to the table for the Texas offense this season. During the preseason, Herbstreit said in an interview that Sark and Ewers are “a match made in heaven”.
It’s also worth noting that Desmond Howard said that he’s “very impressed” with what he’s seen from Ewers thus far, albeit in a limited sample size.
The entire College GameDay crew had some brief, but nice, things to say about what Ewers put on display through the first half of the season, at least when he was healthy and on the field for the Longhorns.
Texas is sporting a record of 4-2 (2-1 Big 12) following the dominant 49-0 win over the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry game on Oct. 8. Ewers and the Longhorns are set to host the Iowa State Cyclones at home in Austin on Oct. 15, with the kickoff time set for 11 a.m. CT.
