6 key recruits impressed by Texas football’s win over Iowa State
There is some real positive news coming out of the weekend on the recruiting trail for Texas football in the 2023 and 2024 classes. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian were able to get their third straight win on the field this weekend, which has translated to a little bit more buzz for this team on the recruiting trail.
Sark and the Longhorns knocked off head coach Matt Campbell and the Iowa State Cyclones in a really gritty affair at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on the afternoon of Oct. 15. This win over Iowa State came to Texas by the final score of 24-21.
This was the narrowest win of the regular season to date for Texas, and the closest game this team has played thus far that ended in regulation.
Moreover, there were some key visitors in attendance for this meeting between Texas and Iowa State in Austin on Oct. 15. A handful of these visitors could have an impact on the Longhorns 2023 and 2024 classes when it’s all said and done. There were also some current Texas commits on hand to watch Texas beat Iowa State this weekend.
Critical recruits impressed by Texas football’s Week 7 win over Iowa State
Here’s a look at six key recruits for the Longhorns that were impressed by the win over Iowa State on Oct. 15.
Braylon Conley, CB
A rising recruit to watch that was in attendance for Texas’ win over Iowa State this weekend is the underrated three-star Humble Atascocita cornerback Braylon Conley. This talented 2024 defensive back recruit received an offer from Texas on Oct. 15.
This was also the first unofficial visit to Austin for Conley and his camp during a game weekend at DKR. And it sounds like Texas knocked it out of the park, and got an offer out to him at the right time.
It helped that Conley was busy on social media this weekend during his visit and as he got the Texas offer. This is definitely a recruitment that we’ll be watching moving forward.
Derion Gullette, EDGE
One of the current Texas commits that looked to be impressed by what he saw on the field from Texas against Iowa State this weekend was the highly touted four-star Teague (TX) edge rusher/linebacker Derion Gullette.
According to the postgame recruit reactions this weekend from Justin Wells of Inside Texas (paid content), Gullette said that the defense “stood out” to him in this win over Iowa State. It’s also good to hear him mention that junior linebacker “Jaylan Ford played amazing”. He’s noticing the linebackers that are rising to the occasion for the Longhorns this fall.
