Jelani McDonald, ATH

A key 2023 recruit that is now firmly on the radar of the Longhorns staff is the fast-rising four-star Oklahoma State Cowboys commit and Waco Connally athlete Jelani McDonald. This weekend saw McDonald make his first trip to Austin for an unofficial visit during a game at DKR.

And it sounds like Texas did really well on this visit this weekend with McDonald. He reportedly said after the game that “the crowd, to how the coaches coached, everything stood out”.

It was also good to hear McDonald mention that “Arch Manning is too cool” as it sounds like he started to build a good relationship with the foundational commitment in the Longhorns 2023 class.

Texas has already flipped one Oklahoma State commit in the 2023 class in three-star South Oak Cliff edge rusher Billy Walton. It looks like the staff is going after another one now in McDonald, who is currently the highest-rated commitment in the Pokes’ 2023 class.

Dozie Ezukanma, WR

One of the talented in-state 2024 wideouts that visited Texas recently is the three-star (and likely soon-to-be four-star) Keller Timber Creek wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma. The brother of the former Texas Tech Red Raiders standout wide receiver Erik Ezukanma, Dozie, was on campus in Austin this weekend for his first unofficial visit to Texas for a game at DKR.

Ezukanma said after this visit that “it was a great game all around”. And he also mentioned, “I really like how the offense was operating effectively”. I would assume that was in reference to the better drives for Texas against this ultra-stringy Iowa State defense.
