A high-stakes matchup lies ahead for No. 22 ranked Texas football next weekend on the road against head coach Mike Gundy and the No. 8 (for now at least) Oklahoma State Cowboys. Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian will face a Big 12 foe away from home for the first time in nearly a month.

The last, and only, time that Sark and the Longhorns battled a Big 12 team on the road so far this season came in the tough overtime loss to the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock on Sep. 24.

Texas comes into this matchup against Oklahoma State with a record of 5-2 (3-1 Big 12) following a narrow 24-21 win at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium over the Iowa State Cyclones on Oct. 15. Sark and the Longhorns have now won three games in a row, including victories that also came over the West Virginia Mountaineers (Oct. 1) and Oklahoma Sooners (Oct. 8).

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State comes into this game with a record of 5-1 (2-1 Big 12) following a tough three-point overtime loss to the No. 13 TCU Horned Frogs on the road in Fort Worth on Oct. 15. Oklahoma State was spotless on the season until the 43-40 double overtime loss to the Horned Frogs this weekend.

Here’s a look at the opening betting odds as Texas gets set to hit the road to face Oklahoma State at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater on Oct. 22, with kickoff time set for 2:30 p.m. CT.

Texas football vs. Oklahoma State: Opening odds for Week 8

Texas opens up as a 2.5-point favorite over Oklahoma State in this game (per FanDuel). The spread has yet to be released.

According to the ESPN Football Power Index, Texas has a 65.8 percent chance to beat Oklahoma State.

Despite the close win over Iowa State, Texas seems to have momentum on its side coming into this game. Oklahoma State had an injured quarterback in senior Spencer Sanders heading into the TCU contest this weekend, and he didn’t play so well as that offense sputtered in the second half.

Oklahoma State also had a tough time two weeks ago closing out a win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders at home. While the Pokes certainly had some pretty high highs this season, the lows are very pronounced too.

Meanwhile, Texas has faced adversity and was able to overcome it in each of the last three weeks. Granted, I don’t know how much you can say that redshirt freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers returning from injury two weeks ago to decimate a really banged-up Oklahoma Sooners team in the Red River Rivalry game was something that saw Texas overcome adversity.

Next. 4 takeaways from Texas' narrow win over Iowa State. dark

The recent series history between Oklahoma State and Texas is pretty entertaining and back and forth. Texas has won two of the last three meetings against Oklahoma State. But the Pokes have won eight of the last 12 dating back to the 2010 season.
