A valuable door might’ve opened on the recruiting trail for the Texas football program in the 2024 class on Oct. 18. Texas saw the highly touted four-star Long Beach Poly (CA) linebacker Dylan Williams de-commit from new head coach Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans via an announcement on social media this week.

Williams specifically announced his de-commitment from USC on his Twitter timeline early in the afternoon of Oct. 18.

And it looks like there are plenty of programs with some buzz surrounding the recruitment of Williams following the de-commitment from USC early this week. One of those programs that could be high up on his list at this point of his recruitment is Texas.

Texas appears to be a school that Williams has some interest in, despite him not getting an offer from the Longhorns staff as of yet. According to a report from Eric Nahlin of Inside Texas on Oct. 18 (paid content), Williams has an interest in Texas following his de-commitment from USC.

In fact, Williams reportedly has an interest in visiting Texas potentially “very soon”.

Some of the other schools that Williams mentioned having an interest in following the de-commitment from USC are the Texas A&M Aggies, Tennessee Volunteers, and Florida Gators. But he mentioned that he is really interested in hearing from the Georgia Bulldogs, Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma Sooners, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Texas.

Texas looks to be in a good position to work with Williams to get him on the books for a visit for a big game weekend this fall at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. And if there is more buzz surrounding the potential of Williams visiting Austin in the near future, I would imagine an offer will come hand in hand.

It’s also worth noting that Williams looks to still have a connection with his former teammate and the former four-star Texas athlete/safety commit Larry Turner-Gooden. Turner-Gooden is currently a freshman safety at Texas.

Moreover, Texas looks to be in a spot where it could make a big move with Williams and his camp after he re-opened his recruitment this week. But this recruitment also looks to be far from over as Williams has a decent list of schools he wants to hear from.

This is the time for Texas to make a well-timed move with Williams, though, if this staff wants to be in a pace-setting spot early on in the race to land the commitment from this blue-chip linebacker when it’s all said and done.

Texas currently has commitments from three recruits in the 2024 class as of Oct. 18. There aren’t any linebackers committed to the Longhorns 2024 class, with two of them playing at corner and the other being classified as an athlete.
