Texas football likely to redshirt WR Agiye Hall in 2022?
A rather surprising statement came from Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian in his Thursday press conference on Oct. 20. Ahead of the matchup between No. 20 ranked Texas and the No. 11 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater this weekend, Sarkisian spoke on a few different interesting topics.
But one that caught my eye, in particular, had to do with the potential redshirt for the former Alabama Crimson Tide second-year freshman wide receiver Agiye Hall. Sark mentioned in his press conference on Oct. 20 in regard to Hall’s redshirt status with the Longhorns that “if we can preserve his redshirt, that would be in the best interest of him and the best interest of us”.
Here’s more on what Sark had to say on the matter of Hall’s redshirt status with the Longhorns in his Thursday press conference (transcript courtesy of Inside Texas).
"“As far as Agiye goes, obviously it’s been a bit of a journey since he’s been here. He’s had some ups and had some downs. At this moment in time, if we can preserve his redshirt I think that would be in the best interest of him and the best interest of us.”"
Freshman Texas football WR Agiye Hall could be on track for a redshirt year in 2022
Hall has already played in four games for the Longhorns this season. He took a single snap in Week 2 against the Alabama Crimson Tide and in Week 5 against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Yet, most of the snaps that Hall took with Texas on offense so far this season came against the UTSA Roadrunners on Sep. 17 and the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Sep. 24. The Texas Tech game was the only outing where Hall took a double-digit number of snaps with Texas so far this season.
Moreover, this is a pretty interesting take from Sark as it looked like Hall was starting to work his way into a bigger role with this Texas offense just a couple of weeks ago. But this year has brought about its fair share of ups and downs for the former Alabama transfer.
Hall was suspended from the team back in August. He would eventually work his way back with the team early in the regular season. But Hall didn’t get much of a shot to make an impact on the field for this offense before Sark mentioned that he could be on track to take a redshirt year in his Thursday press conference.
Texas is currently sporting a record of 5-2 (3-1 Big 12) following a narrow three-point win over the Iowa State Cyclones last weekend at home. Next up for Sark and the Longhorns is a matchup against Oklahoma State on the road in Stillwater on Oct. 22, with the kickoff time set for 2:30 p.m. CT.
