Last season, the former four-star recruit and Florida native wide receiver Jaden Alexis had to take an injury redshirt as he missed the entire campaign due to an ACL tear. After undergoing knee surgery, Alexis was figured to start to be able to work his way back into the wideout rotation this season.

That was especially the case once Neyor went down in the first fall scrimmage with a season-ending knee injury of his own. After Neyor’s season-ending knee injury, it looked like Alexis and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Troy Omeire would both be able to earn some additional reps this fall.

But neither has really taken advantage of that opportunity so far this season, and I believe that has a lot to do with the respective injuries that both are still working through.

From what we heard during the offseason, and specifically coming out of fall camp, Alexis was going through a pretty slow rehab process and didn’t have close to the same speed in drills that he did prior to the ACL tear. It still sounds like Alexis has a good way to go before he is ready to return to the field and make an impact on this Texas offense.

He was limited throughout much of fall camp, including at the open practice on Aug. 16.

All that we saw out of Alexis so far this season in terms of live-game reps were three snaps that he took as a run blocker on the outside late in the season opener against UL-Monroe. We haven’t even so much seen Alexis show up on a two-deep depth chart since the opener last month.
