3 potential Texas A&M transfers Texas football could target in the portal
Next offseason could see head coach Steve Sarkisian and Texas football take advantage of some programs around the college football landscape that are in turmoil. Texas would take advantage of this turmoil within other notable college football programs by plucking some key players out of the NCAA Transfer Portal and flipping commitments on the recruiting trail.
And nothing would make the Longhorns faithful happier than prying away some key commitments and landing some players out of the transfer portal that surface thanks to the turbulence at the moment within the Texas A&M Aggies football program.
There’s a lot of talk surrounding the Texas A&M program in the last few weeks in terms of the outlook after having such a rough start to the 2022 season. Following a loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks last weekend, the Aggies are now sporting a record of 3-4 (1-3 SEC). This was about the worst start that most Texas A&M fans could’ve envisioned.
And the problems that the Aggies are having on the field right now are likely soon to translate to issues on the recruiting trail, and thus in the transfer portal.
Evan Stewart and the possible Texas A&M transfers Texas football pursues next offseason
With that in mind, here’s a look at three potential Texas A&M transfers that Texas could target in the portal next offseason.
PJ Williams, OT
According to a report from Chris Low of ESPN this week, Texas A&M indefinitely suspended freshmen following a locker room incident in the loss to South Carolina over the weekend. One of those Aggies players that were suspended this week was the former highly touted four-star recruit and first-year offensive tackle PJ Williams.
These three freshmen were reportedly suspended indefinitely due to a violation of team rules.
This is a big hit to a 2022 Texas A&M recruiting class that was ranked No. 1 in the nation. This that included Williams was a big reason why the Aggies had the nation’s No. 1 ranked 2022 class.
But this could wind up putting one of the most highly touted recruits from Texas A&M’s class on the transfer market next offseason.
And if Williams checks out for Sark, offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood, and the Longhorns in a world where he enters the portal next offseason, this could be a win-win situation.
Texas loses senior offensive tackle Christian Jones next offseason, and Williams could be a guy that brings valuable depth to the position. Williams did hold a Texas offer coming out of Dickinson High School.
The 6-foot-4 and 285-pound Williams brings a ton of natural talent to the table as a long and athletic offensive tackle that is strong at the point of attack and finishes blocks really well. He’s got the type of measurables and physicality that Flood wants at offensive tackle.
