Jelani McDonald, ATH*

There is an asterisk next to the name of the touted and versatile four-star Waco Connally athlete Jelani McDonald since he already re-opened his recruitment this week. McDonald announced his de-commitment from the Oklahoma State Cowboys via a post on social media on the afternoon of Oct. 25.

But it’s worth noting that McDonald announced in his de-commitment tweet this week that Oklahoma State remains his No. 1 school.

Oklahoma State will remain in the mix among the schools now courting McDonald since his recruitment is open. Texas, Texas A&M, and the Ole Miss Rebels will be some other schools to watch recruiting McDonald.

McDonald is one of the newer priority targets on the radar of the Longhorns 2023 class this fall. Texas offered McDonald earlier this month and hosted him on a visit for the win over the Iowa State Cyclones at DKR on Oct. 15.

And it now looks like Texas will be able to get McDonald on the books for an official visit to Austin either for the Nov. 12 matchup against the TCU Horned Frogs or on Nov. 25 against the Baylor Bears.

The fact that McDonald re-opened his recruitment just a couple of weeks after he received a Texas offer and visited the Forty Acres probably isn’t a coincidence. It’s starting to sound like Texas has a really legit shot to essentially flip the commitment of McDonald from head coach Mike Gundy and the Pokes.
