In the midst of the bye week for Texas football, a notable former Longhorns quarterback can give the fans on the Forty Acres something to watch this weekend. Former Texas standout quarterback Sam Ehlinger will get his first career NFL start on Oct. 30 for the Indianapolis Colts and head coach Frank Reich.

Ehlinger and the Colts will battle the Washington Commanders and head coach Ron Rivera at home at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN, on Oct. 30, with kickoff time set for 3:25 p.m. CT. Sam will get to take on a fellow Texas Ex that was a past teammate of his in this game, former Longhorn All-Big 12 offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi.

Cosmi blocked for Ehlinger in three of the four seasons that he played quarterback on the Forty Acres. They were also teammates from 2017-2020 at Texas.

Moreover, Ehlinger is getting his first career start since the Colts benched veteran former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan following a tough nine-point loss to the AFC South foe Tennessee Titans last weekend.

Ryan got off to a rough start this season, coughing up a whopping 20 turnovers in the first seven games of the 2022 campaign. He’s tossed nine touchdowns and nine picks through seven games. Ryan also fumbled the ball an NFL-worst 11 times so far this season.

It goes without saying that Colts owner Jim Irsay and Reich are ready to find another answer at the quarterback position. Ehlinger is the next man up that the Colts are looking to lead this offense for the rest of the 2022 season.

Here’s a look at a guide on how to watch Ehlinger in his first career NFL start with the Colts on Oct. 30 at home in Indy against the Commanders.
