Adrian Martinez, QB

Last week, everyone with an interest in the Kansas State-Oklahoma State game was talking about the looming quarterback situation for Klieman and the Wildcats. Kansas State had a game-time decision to make at quarterback after both senior Adrian Martinez and junior Will Howard came up with various injury issues in the loss to TCU on Oct. 22.

But it was Howard that had a huge day leading the way for this Kansas State offense against the hapless Pokes last weekend as Martinez was still out dealing with a lower-body injury.

However, the rhetoric that Klieman spoke with throughout the week in press conferences made it seem like Martinez was still the starter for this team when he was able to make his return to live-game action.

Klieman often referred to Howard essentially as the backup quarterback, despite his stellar play with nearly 300 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, and no interceptions in the 48-point win over Oklahoma State.

I will be interested to see how often Kansas State is going to update the injury status of Martinez ahead of the Texas game this weekend.

It’s worth noting that two of the three highest-graded passing games for a Kansas State quarterback this season were Howard in the last two weeks against Oklahoma State and TCU, respectively. At this point, I think most Kansas State fans would want Howard to be the starting quarterback regardless of Martinez’s injury status.

For the time being, though, Sark and the Longhorns must prepare to face either Howard or Martinez this coming weekend.
