The weekend of Nov. 12 is building up to be a big one for Texas football recruiting as the Horns will host the TCU Horned Frogs in Austin for one of the last home games of the season. And one of the most recent visitors among new targets of Texas’ 2023 recruiting class added to the list for the weekend of Nov. 12 is the underrated three-star Covington Newton (GA) defensive lineman and West Virginia Mountaineers commit Justin Benton.

Defensive line coach Bo Davis and the Longhorns offered Benton on October 28 and didn’t waste a lot of time to get him on the books for a visit to Austin for a weekend game.

According to a report from Gerry Hamilton of Inside Texas on Oct. 31 (paid content), Texas is working on getting Benton on the docket for an official visit to Austin for the game between the Longhorns and Horned Frogs on Nov. 12. That visit date is not locked in yet. Still, it does look like Texas will be able to get Benton to campus at some point next month.

Benton mentioned that if he doesn’t visit Texas for the TCU game in a couple of weeks, he will look to get to campus roughly two weeks after. That would likely mean he visits Austin for the Texas-Baylor game on the weekend of Nov. 25 (Black Friday).

It sounds like Benton wants to visit both Texas and the Arkansas Razorbacks in the next month. The exact dates of each visit are to be determined, though.

The variable here sounds like Benton’s playoff schedule. Depending on how the rest of his high school football schedule shakes out this fall, he could visit Texas and Arkansas on consecutive weekends next month since the Razorbacks have three straight home games in the next three weeks.

Moreover, Texas is starting to expand the net in terms of the defensive line targets remaining for the Longhorns 2023 class ahead of signing day. Benton is now in the mix with the likes of four-star Garland Naaman Forest product Markis Deal and five-star Katy Paetow product/Texas A&M Aggies commit David Hicks among the top defensive line targets for the Longhorns 2023 class this fall.

If Texas does get Benton on the books for an official visit to Austin for the weekend of Nov. 12, that would make it four 2023 recruits making the trip. The other three planned official visitors for Texas on Nov. 12 are Deal, three-star safety Tyler Scott, and five-star tight end Duce Robinson.
