One of the major question marks in terms of the looming injury issues in the secondary down the stretch this season is thanks to the broken forearm that senior safety Anthony Cook suffered in the loss to Oklahoma State on Oct. 22. Cook exited the game against Oklahoma State, which really hurt the Texas secondary in the second half.

Yet, the originally prognosis looked a lot worse for Cook than it turned out to be in the last week or so.

From the looks of it, there’s a chance that Cook could be available for the Longhorns this weekend against Kansas State.

There’s an asterisk next to his name on this list for a reason, though. While it does sound like Cook made significant progress in his recovery in the last couple of weeks in practice, there’s no guarantee that he returns against Kansas State.

That would be a quick turnaround just two weeks after suffering a broken forearm.

And even if Cook does return for the Longhorns this weekend to face Kansas State, he would likely have a big cast on the arm that he broke in Week 8.

Moreover, Sark did update the injury to Cook earlier this week, saying that he is essentially making progress. But Sark didn’t mention the availability for Cook this weekend against Kansas State. As he’s done for much of the season, Sark shied away from mentioning any actual status update for an injured player.

I wouldn’t be surprised either way if Cook does or doesn’t play against Kansas State on Nov. 5. The staff might want to be a little more patient with this recovery. Or, he might be willing to go ahead and tough it out in a big game on the road this weekend.
