In a Big 12 football game that has turned out to be headlined by a few notable injuries in the first half, both the No. 7 ranked TCU Horned Frogs and Texas Tech Red Raiders are working through some bumps and bruises to begin Week 10. On the TCU side, star junior wide receiver Quentin Johnston was banged up on the first drive of the game for the Frogs’ offense.

It looks like Johnston tweaked an ankle that he originally hurt in TCU’s win in Morgantown last weekend over the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Johnston only got to play in a couple of snaps before he was sidelined for the rest of the first half against Texas Tech.

Meanwhile, there was also a significant injury that emerged for Texas Tech in the first half. Freshman quarterback Behren Morton suffered an apparent lower-body injury on a hit he took in the second quarter against the Frogs.

The Fox crew showed Morton heading to the locker room a little bit beyond the midway point of the second quarter.

Texas Tech was reportedly warming up the former Oregon Ducks transfer quarterback Tyler Shough on the sideline after Morton came up hobbled.

Shough did take the rest of the snaps at quarterback for the Red Raiders for the remainder of the second quarter after Morton went to the locker room. But he had just one passing attempt in relief in the first half, which resulted in an incompletion.

It’s worth noting that we didn’t see Morton return to the sidelines before halftime. We have yet to find a status update on Morton ahead of the second half.

In the meantime, both Shough and dual-threat quarterback Donovan Smith did take snaps in various situations for the Texas Tech offense in the first half. Texas Tech likes to utilize Smith as a runner in short-yardage situations. And he got on the field for two rushing attempts in short-yardage situations in the first half.

Moreover, Morton was in a good rhythm in the first half before he came up limping due to an apparent lower-body injury. He completed seven of his 10 passing attempts, for 79 yards, one passing score, and no interceptions. Morton also had six rushing attempts for -2 yards.

We will continue to monitor the status of Morton heading into the second half in this Big 12 matchup between Texas Tech and TCU.

Heading into the locker room at halftime, TCU was able to knock through a field goal to gain a 13-10 lead over Texas Tech. TCU will be looking to stay undefeated by holding off the upset bid from the Red Raiders in the second half while Tech will be looking to get above .500 if it can pull off the victory.
