4 overreactions from Texas football’s paramount win over Kansas State
Bijan Robinson continues to do everything well for this offense
The offensive MVP in this game for the Longhorns was clearly Bijan. He did it all for Texas in this win over Kansas State, giving the team more than 200 rushing yards and one rushing score. Bijan also managed more than 230 total yards from scrimmage, thanks to his two catches for 34 receiving yards.
The first half is when Bijan really came alive for the Longhorns. He had a career-best in the first half for rushing yards in this game, going for a whopping 161 and one score. That included a 36-yard touchdown scamper and a long 68-yard run that nearly turned into another rushing score in the first half alone.
Bijan also put up 120 yards after initial contact (led the Big 12), nine missed tackles forced (second in the Big 12), and seven first downs (tied for third in the Big 12) against Kansas State.
Another big game for Bijan in terms of missed tackles forced still keeps him leading the nation, with 73 on the season on run plays.
Moreover, it’s clear to me at this point of the season that Bijan not only deserves a lot of Heisman hype, but he has also proven that he is the best running back in the country. There are some other running backs that have arguments here (i.e. Michigan’s Blake Corum and Alabama’s Jahmyr Gibbs).
But I don’t know if any of these guys are as valuable to their team in terms of efforts to get the right result in the win column week in and week out as Bijan is to the Longhorns.
All in all, Bijan is doing it all for this Texas offense. He’s essentially carried this team to wins over the Iowa State Cyclones, Kansas State, and nearly Oklahoma State a couple of weeks ago. He’s making major contributions obviously in the ground game, along with the receiving game, and he’s even improved as a blocker.
