Johntay Cook, WR

There were some rumors swirling around lately regarding the status of the commitment of the elite five-star DeSoto wide receiver Johntay Cook to Texas. With the likes of the Oregon Ducks, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Georgia Bulldogs, among others, still pushing hard to flip Cook’s commitment this fall, finding continued success on the field is clearly good for Texas in this recruitment.

It sounded like there was a possibility of Cook visiting Georgia for the top-three game over the weekend against Tennessee in Athens. But it doesn’t look like that visit came to fruition, and we can see that Cook was pretty attentive to the Texas-Kansas State game on Nov. 5.

I will keep reiterating that keeping this level of engagement from the commits in Texas’ 2023 class, especially the ones the caliber of Cook, is huge down the stretch before signing day.

Other teams are going to continue to recruit Cook through the whistle on signing day. He’s that caliber of recruit.

But the fact of the matter is that Cook has maintained that his commitment to Texas is solid at almost every turn since the summer.

And during the win for the Longhorns over Kansas State over the weekend, it looks like Cook was pretty emotionally invested if his activity on social media tells you anything. At one point in the game, he tweeted at star sophomore wide receiver Xavier Worthy, saying “u filthy twin”.

Cook is a mainstay in the Longhorns 2023 class. Sark and new wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator Brennan Marion are going to continue to treat him as such with signing day approaching.

It’s worth mentioning that it wouldn’t surprise me if Cook gets to campus for one of the two remaining home games on the docket for the regular season for Texas (Nov. 12 vs. TCU and Nov. 25 vs. Baylor).
